Os convidados de outras igrejas foram integrados e integraram-se em praticamente todos os trabalhos e manifestações da Conferência. Apesar da forte tradição exclusivista católica na qual a maioria dos bispos, assessores e participantes tinham sido formados, ocorreu inesperadamente na assembleia um clima convivial de fraternidade entre todos e que incluía os irmãos de outras Igrejas ali presentes como convidados. Esse clima possibilitou uma experiência espiritual de diálogo fraterno e de abertura ao outro que só podem ser explicados como experiência do Espírito. De fato, a espiritualidade ecumênica em Medellín foi muito além do ecumenismo institucional propriamente dito ali expressado. Sem dúvida, uma forte razão para isso foi que os representantes eclesiais ali presentes perceberam suas respectivas igrejas como parte integrante dos povos latino-americanos, perceberam-nas a partir dos pobres e colocaram-se como servidores da libertação de Jesus. Em outras palavras, colocaram-se a partir da finalidade dos quadros institucionais, a missão evangélica. Assim, Medellín é um sopro iluminador do Espírito; de certa forma, ainda fugaz, mas, seja como for, uma provocação profética para nossos dias. | ||
| 520 | |a The Medellín Conference, whose source of encouragement and inspiration was the Vatican II, did not deal explicitly with the theme of ecumenism. However, and surprisingly, it gave testimony of an excellent ecumenical atmosphere and of an inter-ecclesial union. The guests from other churches were integrated and integrated themselves in practically all the works and manifestations of the Conference. In spite of the strong Catholic exclusivity in which the majority of bishops, assistants and participants had been trained, in the Conference there happened an unexpected atmosphere of convivial fraternity among all. This included the brothers of other churches who made part of the event as guests. This atmosphere made possible a spiritual experience of fraternal dialogue and of an opening to the other that can only be explained as an experience of the Spirit. In fact, the ecumenical spirituality in Medellín went far beyond the very institutional ecumenism expressed there. No doubt, a strong motive for this was the fact that the ecclesial representatives there present perceived their respective churches as an integral part of the Latin-American peoples, perceived them from the viewpoint of the poor and placed themselves as servants of Jesus' liberation. In other words, they placed themselves in accordance with the aim of the institutional cadres, i.e. the evangelical mission. Thus Medellín is a blow that illuminates the Spirit; and in a certain way, even if fleetingly, it was, one way or the other, a prophetic inducement for our days. | ||
