Die Lieder von 51,1-12 und 51,12a-o können als Hymnen verstanden werden, zu denen sich der Hohepriester Simon am Ende von Kapitel 50 äußerte. Bei der Entstehung dieser beiden Hymnen kann die Darstellung der Verehrung Simons hilfreich gewesen sein. Die Verbindung dieser Lieder mit dem Buch spiegelt die Ansicht wider, dass Ben Sira als ein Weiser einen authentischen Bericht über die Anbetung im Tempel aus der Zeit des zweiten Tempels liefern konnte. Die Tatsache, dass Sir 51,12a-o nur in der mittelalterlichen B- Handschrift aus der Cairo Genizah belegt wird, deutet darauf hin, dass diese Vorstellung über Ben Sira im rabbinischen Judentum weiter bestand und sogar blüht. | ||

While scholars have often focused on the issue of the authenticity of these texts, that is, whether they were written by Ben Sira himself or derive from antiquity, they provide an important opportunity to assess how readers understood Ben Sira, the sage and the book, in the reception of the composition. The hymns in 51,1-12 and v.12a-o can be reasonably understood as hymns uttered by the High Priest Simon depicted at the end of ch. 50. The account of Simon’s worshipping can be understood to some extent as helping generate these two hymns. The association of the hymns with the book of Ben Sira and his name reflects the view that he, as a sage from the days of the temple, could provide an authentic account of worship at the temple. The fact that Sir 51,12a-o is attested only in the medieval B manuscript from the Cairo Genizah indicates that this conception of Ben Sira continued and flourished in rabbinic Judaism. | ||
