Au cœur des pratiques alimentaires, la religion impose sa marque en contribuant à la fabrique d'un cadre normé, qui est aussi vecteur d'identité. Elle désigne ce qui est consommable, donc tenu pour pur, et ce qui ne l'est pas, fixe les règles de préparation des mets, du champ à la cuisine, et édicte des normes de conduite au moment de leur consommation. C'est précisément parce que la notion de norme est au cœur de l'une comme de l'autre, que religion et alimentation sont des moyens privilégiés d'interroger les sociétés, de les comparer entre elles, et de souligner les spécificités de chacune. Le présent ouvrage, collectif et pluridisciplinaire, a pour objectif de préciser la place de la nourriture dans les mythes et les pratiques rituelles, et de définir la nature et l'importance de la marque religieuse dans les pratiques alimentaires. Religion, especially in Antiquity, requires food to form the rite: food as offerings permits the circulation between this world and hereafter, from the living making offerings to the gods and the dead and then in return, the gods - and sometimes the dead - through the abundance of harvests offer food to the living. At the heart of food practices, religion imposes its mark by contributing to the manufacture of a standardized framework, which is also a vector of identity.
