Σύνοψη:Politics and Religion: The "judicious" Hooker as an icon of Anclicanism and support of the "status quo between 1660 and 1688 Richard Hooker was a major theolgian of the Anglican Church a master of English prose and Philosophy of Law. In his magnum opus "Of the Laws of Eclesiastical Polity", he defended the Elizabethan Religious Settlement and the governance of the Church by the temporal power, all supported on natural law as a rational regime and the Crown under the law of the Commonwealth. We consider it essential to understand the political use of the ideas of Hooker. During the seventeenth century a myth about the authority of our "judicious" author was bulit. That is why we intend to chronicle the steps followed in order to construct the image of Hooker as an iconic emblem of Anglicanism, with all its complexities and ambiguities. The teachings of our author on relations between the Church and the State have a number of key points and make a real Anglican Political theology, consolidated during the Restauration. It's remarkable that tories and whigs used Hooker in order to support their political ideas. In this paper are analyzed these interpretations during the reigns of Charles II and Jacob II
