Summary: | The Code of Canon Law dedicates just one canon to the ministry of exorcism, prescribing the requierement of a licence given by the local ordinary so that it may be exercised and limiting ist concession only to the priest, who has tobe endowed by piety, knowledge, prudence and integrity of life (can. 1172). This study takes into consideration the codical prescription, which, is then supplemented by liturgical norms and by other dispositions on the matter, to outline the figure of the minister origin and historical development of the ecclesiastical norms aid the comprehension of the reasons underlying the need for such a licence and ist limitation solely to revolves around disciplining a pastoral remit that is very delicate, that touches on the faith of the Church in one significant aspect of it.
