AB This work addresses the relations between Diego de Covarrubias y Leiva (1512-1577) and the University of Salamanca in the Renaissance on several different levels: as a law student, as a university professor of Canon Law, and as inspector of the selfsame University. A detailed study is made of the Statutes of 1561 which he supervised, and which meant that the University had accepted the patronage of the King and his centralizing and standardizing interventionism
