|l The article presents an exploration into the poetry of American writer Nathaniel Mackey and his treatment of ritual, religion and rites within his works. Rene Girard's anthropological philosophy of "the Unity of All Rites," is also described and applied within the works of Mackey. The violent and shaman-like nature of Mackey's works are particularly examined.
