| Sumario: | This article provides a detailed study of yet another version of the intriguing document generally referred to as Dhimmat an-nabī Muḥammad (Muḥammad's Writ of Protection), which is claimed to be given by Muḥammad to the Jews. This new version reiterates two striking features which dominate the previously published ones: namely, the unequivocal Jewish recognition of Muḥammad as a true prophet of God and the utter devotion which the Jews allegedly displayed towards the "Messenger of God," fighting valiantly on his side and desecrating the Sabbath for his sake in order to ensure his victory. The study examines this Jewish strain of liberal attitude towards the Prophet of Islam throughout the ages, focusing mainly on the Jews of Yemen. |
