His criticism is shown to be without substance and his specific interpretations are refuted. Charpin's method of "reading" texts and his suggested course for reconstructing historical processes constitute a cul de sac and are tantamount to an assertion that Mesopotamian social organization differs from all other known human societies. His consequent belief in the sui generis status of Assyriology is deplored. | ||
