On the one hand there are positions which emphasize the perceptive nature of experience like W. Alston's, on the other hand there are historical-sociological theories of which C. Taylor is a proponent. This article argues that a pragmatist position with an emphasis on the category of meaning governing the worldview as well as a close relationship with natural sciences can bridge the apparent divide. |
