The article begins by studying the significance of the adage lex orandi, lex credendi; in doing so we discover that the lex in question is that of Scripture, as received by Churches, and implemented in their liturgies. The rest of the article attempts to determine the levels of authority of each of these bodies. Scripture appears as the fundamental norm; the Church has a duty to oversee that the biblical input and the liturgical norms correspond; lastly, liturgists have the task of exercising a certain authority over liturgy so that what is attained corresponds to the intentions put forward.
