| Summary: | The paper on the neglected part I of the diptych about the wise scribe follows, after an overview concerning the position of artisans in the Hellenistic environment of Ben Sira, the text of Sir 38,24-34 with the presentation of handicraft in Jerusalem. There seems to be no devaluation or contempt of manual labour in Ben Sira. In accordance with his view of double aspects in creation (Sir 39,21.34) both, artisans and scribes, are important for the society. The evaluation of manual labour must not be separated from the social position of the wise scribe between artisans and the leading classes in culture and society of his time. Ben Sira bears witness to the attempt of establishing a new class of scribes und tries to strengthen their position and authority by theological arguments. Der Beitrag zum vernachlässigten Teil 1 des Diptychons vom schriftgelehrten Weisen bietet nach einem Überblick zur Stellung der Handwerker in der Umwelt Ben Siras anhand des Textes Sir 38,24-34 einen Gang durch Stätten der Arbeit und des Handwerks in und um Jerusalem. Das Ergebnis zeigt keine Abwertung oder Verachtung des Handwerks. Sirach betont entsprechend seiner Sicht vom doppelten Aspekt des Geschaffenen (vgl. 39,21.34) die Bedeutung von Handwerkern und Schriftgelehrten für die Gesellschaft seiner Tage. Die rechte Einschätzung handwerklicher Arbeit ist nicht zu trennen von der konkreten Rolle und Stellung des Schriftgelehrten damals. Ben Sira bezeugt den Versuch, den neuen Stand des schriftgelehrten Weisen zwischen Handwerkern, Beamten und den gesellschaftlich-politisch führenden Gruppen zu etablieren und dessen Selbstbewusstsein theologisch zu festigen. |
