Summary: | The research done on the post-reformation epitaphs in Scandinavia has been fairly limited. This article deals with one aspect of the theological framework surrounding the epitaphs of the 17th century, namely the question of whether or not the Lutheran grave monument expresses any mourning or grief over the departed. The answer is negative. No expression of grief is found. This conclusion is used to discuss Lutheran handling of grief from the Reformation and up until today. |
