This essay employs primarily philosophical insights to argue that contemplation may have valuable implications for the manner in which crime is perceived and analyzed. It will be argued that prior to any scientific exploration, one must first probe the ontological question, the question of foundational meaning and its relationship to truthful perception. Heidegger develops what amounts to a contemplative method of intuiting this primary knowledge. Practical implications of this contemplative stance for the study of criminal justice will be discussed. | ||
