Description
Summary:This article sums up the unique figure and the enormous literary production of Fr. A. Orbe, one of the most distinguished contemporary catholic scholars of the beginnings of Christian theology, been professor at the Gregorian University of Rome all his life. After a brief biographical browse, his methodological contribution to the readings of the theological works from the first centuries is evaluated. Analyzing successively the various contents of his research and the main works which came out of his pen, the wide range and the relevance his studies have to ancient philosophy studies, biblical exegesis and, as a consequence, dogmatics, is emphasized. His Christology studies of the first and second centuries, the anthropology of St. Ireneus and the Valentinian Studies are particularly worthy of interest for any subsequent research. It is not to forget - in the way they give us a more complete image of the author - his multiple and rich spiritual works.
