AB The Abiku are described as wandering spirits who specialise in the sadistic mischief of finding the way into wombs of women to be born in order to die. The author considers the fundamental causes responsible for the Abiku phenomenon, the symptoms, the links of the Abiku with the supernatural, recentation rituals and the impact of acculturation (especially of Islam and Christianity) on the phenomenon.
