AB This paper is dealing with the concept of martyr, shahid, as it is presented in the Islamic tradition. After an etymological approach of this concept, the author reports on some hadiths that are related to this theme, such as to that person who "falls dead while into love". He then explores the manner through which the jurists are dealing with the necessary conditions for considering an act of martyrdom valid.
