By contrast, Lonergan’s theory of the good, emphasizing the role of intrinsic values, revives, in a contemporary way, the case for the good of moderation and service that is needed in today’s urban circumstances. Though irreconcilable with certain forms of liberalism, Lonergan’s view is roughly compatible with the later work of John Rawls, which avoids a 'thin' theory of the good by endorsing an overlapping consensus among 'thick' ones. | ||
