Summary: | We examined the benefits of humility in marriage relationships in this study. Specifically, we tested two mediation models in which humility positively contributes to marital satisfaction through the mediating effect of trust and successful relational repair. We also examined the differences between self-reported level of humility and perceived humility in a marriage context. Married dyads (N = 195) concurrently completed measures of humility based on their self-report, perceived humility of their partners, trust toward their partners, their experience of relational repair in their marriages, and their level of marital satisfaction. Perception of humility was a stronger contributor to marital satisfaction when compared with self-reported humility. Trust and successful repair mediated the relationship between perceived humility and marital satisfaction. We discussed implications for clinical practice and research |
