520 | |a The starting point for the present reflections is an important statement of the council fathers at Vatican II. In Sacrosanctum concilium, no. 48 they say: 'The Church […] earnestly desires that Christ’s faithful […] though a good understanding of the rites and prayers […] should take part in the sacred action conscious of what they are doing, with devotion and full collaboration'. Given this high ideal and the observation that it is only rarely achieved, this statement raises the theological and pastoral question of how the mystery of the Eucharist can be interiorized. This question is answered in three consecutive steps. First, an interpretation of SC no. 48 in line with what is said in no. 47 is presented. In as much as the Eucharist is characterized as sacramentum pietatis, signum unitatis, vinculum caritatis and as convivium paschale (SC, no. 47), it is possible to discern proper dispositions for it. These are further conceptualized in the second part, where the notions of proximity and dignity are explored. Third, an effort is made to connect the combination of God’s proximity and the human being’s dignity with Thomas Aquinas’ Eucharistic poetry. It is demonstrated that this particular resource still contains a great potential for interiorizing the mystery of the Eucharist today | ||

Dans Sacrosanctum concilium 48 ils disent: «L’Église [...] désire ardemment que les fidèles [...], grâce à une bonne compréhension des rites et des prières, prennent part à l’action sacrée, conscients de ce qu’ils font, avec dévotion et pleine collaboration». Compte tenu de ce grand idéal et de l’observation qu’il n’est que rarement atteint, cette déclaration soulève la question théologique et pastorale de l’intériorisation du mystère de l’Eucharistie. Cette question est abordée en trois étapes successives. La première présente une interprétation du SC 48 conformément à ce qui est énoncé dans le no. 47. Dans la mesure où l’Eucharistie est caractérisée comme sacramentum pietatis, signum unitatis, vinculum caritatis et comme convivium paschale (SC 47), il est possible de discerner les dispositions qui lui sont appropriées. Celles-ci sont encore conceptualisées dans la deuxième partie, où les notions de proximité et de dignité sont explorées. La troisième partie concentre tout l’effort déployé pour relier la combinaison de la proximité de Dieu et la dignité de l’être humain avec la poésie eucharistique de Thomas d’Aquin. Il est démontré que cette ressource particulière contient encore un grand potentiel pour l’intériorisation du mystère de l’Eucharistie aujourd’hui | ||
