| Summary: | To study Hermetic tradition, scholars have at their disposal mainly writings and fragments coming from manuscript transmission. Besides this transmission, which does not allow to go back beyond the beginning of the second millenary of the Common Era, there is a papyrological one which dates back to Antiquity. Even if most of papyri are very fragmentary, they have something to teach us, less about doctrine than about their edition and reception. The following pages have the purpose first to gather information about all these papyri, then to draw some observations which may contribute to the history of the transmission and the reception of Hermetic writings in Antiquity. |
