| Zusammenfassung: | This article describes the basic elements of the theological research program. The first part raises the question about the rationality of theological statements. Based on Lakatos and agreeing to a large extent with Pannenberg (and partly also with Murphy) the article claims that from the viewpoint of philosophy of science theological statements have to be seen as hypotheses, which must be indirectly proven by long-term experience. – The second part outlines the basic elements of a concrete research program, in which – using again Lakatos – three levels are distinguished: 1) general framework; 2) hard core; 3) auxiliary hypotheses. The hard core consists in the hypothesis that God's acting in the world has to be interpreted as the enabling of human beings to attain true and lasting reconciliation without relying on common enemies or scapegoats. The theory of René Girard is used as an auxiliary hypothesis to deal with questions in the fields of anthropology, sociology and religious studies. Teilhard de Chardin's view is used as a provisional hypothesis to connect the hard core with the theory of evolution and other scientific data. |
