| 520 | |a The Church of the Brethren Mission (CBM) played a tremendous role in the development of education in several areas of Borno and Gongola States of Nigeria. The CBM came to Nigeria in 1922, with the aim of introducing Christianity in the northeastern part of Nigeria, using education as a means to that end. Between 1923 and 1973, the CBM was responsible for the development of 40 primary schools and two postprimary institutions in this part of Nigeria. In addition to formal education, the CBM also planned and operated community development programmes aimed at improving the quality of life in the rural areas. This paper traces the educational contribution of the CBM in Borno and Gongola States and assesses its impact on the people of these States. (Documentatieblad/ASC Leiden) | ||
