Summary: | In his "Dogmatics" of 1925 Tillich deals with problems of classical metaphysics and he implicitly claims to solve these problems definitely. This means a "turning round" of metaphysics as Tillich points out. This article tries to proof this claim from the standpoint of philosophy. In a first part I start by pointing out Tillich's opinion to some basic problems of classical metaphysics; in a second part I try to point out the unproved premises that appear in the background; in a third and last part I finally answer the question what Tillich means by the "turning round" of metaphysics and whether it turns out to be an acceptable philosophical solution. My conclusion is the following: Tillich eliminates metaphysics as doctrine of God and accepts only metaphysics as ontology. But Tillich's ontology is nothing more than an "ancilla theologiae". All in all we can say: With the "turning round" of metaphysics Tillich in no way solves the problem of metaphysics. |
