Summary: | The beginning of the edition of all the Works of Karl Rahner, an edition which is planned in 32 volumes and which should be finished in about ten years, has to be estimated an important event for German-speaking theology. Many texts, especially those of the early Rahner, will be published here for the first time. In this manner it will be possible to do something which has not been done enough so far as regards Rahner: to consider and understand his mind from the point of view of his whole development and to interpret his publications adequately with the help of all his writings. – The first volume which has already appeared (SW [= Sämtliche Werke] 19) brings out his fundamental reflections about the Church in its selfperformance ("Selbstvollzug der Kirche") which were written down in the period immediately after the 2. Vatican Council. The second volume (SW 2) contains Rahner's fundamental work in the area of philosophy, his "Geist in Welt", together with a whole range of texts, which help to understand the manyfold references which he makes. Here it becomes clearly touchable, which great connection exists with the thoughts of Martin Heidegger. |
