Each of them shows a peculiar impact on the celebration and a different understanding of the reformation itself. The document of the Evangelical Church in Germany “Rechtfertigung und Freiheit” (Justification and Freedom) mainly understands reformation as a religious event, caused by theological insights, which are described by manners of the five reformatory “Sola”. The text intends to inform evangelical Christians about the core of reformation thought, while the document “From Conflict to Communion” is an ecumenical text, written by the Lutheran - Roman Catholic Commission on Unity. Like “Rechtfertigung und Freiheit”, it stresses theological questions, but in ecumenical perspective: Lutheran theology is reconstructed in a way that shows the broad consensus between Catholic and Lutheran side, as it has been achieved in the last decades. Likewise, “Reformation 1517-2017. Ecumenical Perspectives”, presented by the German “Ökumenischer Arbeitskreis evangelischer und katholischer Theologen” is set into an ecumenical context. The focus of understanding reformation here is more historical than theological. Reformation is seen as a process of dividing church structures. This causes, as the text declares, grief and pity, but it also opens the possibility to understand plurality as a gift, not withdrawing the hope for a visible unity of the Church. | ||
