Wie die Autorin darlegt, liegt der Grund dafür v.a. in der Desillusionierung der Jugendlichen, das Ziel eines unabhängigen palästinensischen Staates in absehbarer Zukunft erreichen zu können. Viele Jugendliche seien zwischen nationalen und persönlichen Interessen hin und her gerissen. Aufgrund mangelnder persönlicher Perspektiven finde das Image des Märtyrers (shahid) bedingt Anklang. In der Mehrzahl werde aber nach alternativen Wegen gesucht, die Intifada fortzuführen, wozu der Boykott israelischer Produkte und das Einwirken auf die öffentliche Meinung durch das Internet zählen.
