After the Second Vatican Council a revised form of the Carthusian Order's own rite was approved in 1978. On the one hand, this rite emphasizes the specific character of womanhood; on the other hand, it singles out the presentation of the stole, which is performed in the liturgy, for particular attention by entrusting distinctive ministries (during the proclamation of Scripture and at the Eucharist) to the virgin that are otzerwise associated with the ordination of deacons which is reserved to men.
