| Resumo: | In December 1995, the Association of Indonesian Muslim Intellectuals, ICMI (Ikatan Cendekiawan Muslim se-Indonesia), held its second national congress in Jakarta. Twelve hundred delegates elected new leaders for ICMI. The ICMI leadership list included several officials and former officials previously regarded as hostile to Islamic political movements. The author offers a "political explanation" of the "Islamic turn" in contemporary Indonesian politics by the phenomenon of ICMI. He shows that the ICMI is only nominally Islamic and it is managed by leaders personally selected by president Suharto. (DÜI-Sen) |
