| Σύνοψη: | The New Testament uses the metaphor "foundation" for Christ (1 Cor 3:11), the apostels and early Christian prophets (Eph 2:20), the church as an institution (1 Tim 3:15; 2 Tim 2:19) and central elements of Christian faith (Hebr 6:1). In 16th century's controversial theology Protestants and Catholics disputed whether only Christ (Protestants) or also apostels and prophets (Catholics) could be regarded as the basis of Christianism. Both churches, however, agreed in regarding the Christian doctrine, i.e. the revelation as the basis of Christian faith. This discussion about the foundation of Christian doctrine was the background on which the concept of "fundamental theology" came up. |
