Textliche Evidenzen, vergleichende literarische Analysen und lexikalische Überlegungen schließen eine terminative Interpretation von V.1d aus und erfordern stattdessen eine ablative Übersetzung (»vom Berg«). Diese subtile Interpretationsverschiebung zu Beginn der Psalmen beeinflusst die Interpretation der gesamten Komposition und zeigt eine didaktische Funktion, die übersehen wurde. Die literarische Episode in V.1–3 stellt sich eine königliche Figur vor, deren Hingabe an Jahwe von einem prophetischen Rat in Frage gestellt wird, der aber Zuversicht hinsichtlich der Erlösung durch Jahwe hat. V.4–7 macht Mut zu einer ähnlichen Hingabe an Jahwe durch die königliche Figur. Die kultische und königliche Ideologie, die den gesamten Psalm durchzieht, spiegelt die Interessen des dafür verantwortlichen Liturgiker wider.

Textual evidence, comparative literary analysis, and lexical considerations preclude a terminative interpretation of v. 1d and require instead an ablative translation (»from the mountain«). This subtle interpretive shift at the incipit of the psalms affects the interpretation of the entire composition, and it reveals a didactic function that has been overlooked. The literary episode in vv. 1–3 envisions a royal figure whose devotion to Yahweh is challenged by prophetic counsel, but who remains confident in Yahweh’s deliverance. Vv. 4–7 encourage a similar devotion to Yahweh as displayed by the royal figure. The cultic and royal ideology woven throughout the psalm reflects the interests of the liturgist responsible for it.
