| Summary: | The aim of this paper is to study an early Spanish translation of Utopia that has not received much scholarly attention. We are referring to the manuscript II/1087 of the Real Biblioteca de Palacio, an anonymous text without explicit date that is still unpublished although it is most probably the first complete rendering into a vernacular language of Thomas More's work. We cast light on the date of composition of the manuscript as well as the Latin text used by the anonymous translator. We also analyse the circumstances involved in the making of the text and we ponder the fidelity of the translation and the quality of the Spanish version by comparing it with the Latin text of Utopia. Finally, we draw some conclusions about the anonymous translator. Dans cet article, on étudie une traduction espagnole précoce d'Utopia qui est passée pratiquement inaperçue par la critique. Il s'agit du manuscrit II/1087 de la Real Biblioteca de Palacio, anonyme, sans dater, et inédite, même si, avec toute probabilité, renferme la première traduction vernaculaire complète du texte de More. Tout au large de ce travail on essaie de tirer au clair la date de rédaction du manuscrit, le texte base d'où est parti le traducteur anonyme, les circonstances qui ont eu lieu dans le processus d'écriture et aussi voir le degré de fidélité du traducteur et la qualité de sa version espagnole en la comparant avec le texte latin d'Utopia. Finalement, on extrait des conclusions sur le traducteur anonyme. En el presente artículo se estudia una temprana traducción castellana de Utopia que prácticamente ha pasado desapercibida para la crítica. Nos referimos al manuscrito II/1087 de la Real Biblioteca de Palacio, anónimo, sin fechar e inédito aún aunque, con toda probabilidad, contiene la primera traducción vernácula completa del texto de Moro. A lo largo del trabajo se trata de esclarecer la fecha de redacción del manuscrito, el texto base del que partió el anónimo traductor, las circunstancias que intervinieron en el proceso de escritura y también se valora el grado de fidelidad del traductor y la calidad de su versión castellana mediante el cotejo de esta con el texto latino de Utopia. Ya por último, se extraen algunas conclusiones acerca del anónimo traductor. |
