RT Article T1 ‘The Enfranchisement of Baptist Women'? A Brief History of The Baptist Women's League and the Womens' Suffrage Movement in England and Scotland JF Baptist quarterly VO 49 IS 4 SP 146 OP 164 A1 Cartwright, Colin A. LA English PB Routledge, Taylor and Francis Group YR 2018 UL https://ixtheo.de/Record/1582274401 AB The launch of the Baptist Women's League in 1908 coincided with the dramatic growth of the women's suffrage movement. But the tendency of the BWL towards a narrow denominational focus and towards social convention meant that the voices of Baptist women suffragists were muted within the BWL. However, the later rise of ‘spiritual militancy' amongst non-militant suffragists led to Baptist women becoming more numerous and more vocal in their support for ‘votes for women'.
