| Resumo: | À la suite de prédécesseurs peu nombreux, Marcel Gauchet a étudié en sociologue la religion et ses rapports avec l'État. Son œuvre principale sur ce thème, Le désenchantement du monde (1985), est présentée puis discutée à partir d'une distinction entre une chrétienté en déclin et un christianisme qui se rajeunit face à l'individualisme moderne et à ses idoles, non sans une certaine prolifération de sectes. Some 30 years ago Marcel Gauchet, a French sociologist, wrote an essay translated as The Disenchantment of the World (1999), in which he contends that Christianity is 'the religion of the end of religion'. He reinterprets the development of the modern West, with all its political and psychological complexities, in terms of mankind's changing relation to religion. This essay presents and discusses his views by distinguishing between a decay of Christendom and a renewal of Christianity facing modern individualism and idols. |
