Le rejet définitif de Saül, qui clôt l'histoire du benjaminite dans le livre de Samuel, est réinterprété par l'évangéliste comme un renversement seulement temporaire. Conformément à la théologie paulinienne, Saul meurt puis ressuscite par le baptême, et la grâce accordée par Jésus lui permet de vivre une vie nouvelle. Saul parcourt alors le long chemin de l'élection jadis emprunté par Saül, jusqu'à ce que le troisième signe de la prophétie de Samuel s'accomplisse et qu'il devienne Paul, le nouvel homme. Les évènements et les succès qui s'ensuivent lors de la mission auprès des païens réinterprètent les victoires militaires et les échecs de l'ancien roi. | ||
| 520 | |a In Acts 9-15, Luke organizes the narratives of Paul’s history from Damascus to Antioch as a reinterpretation of the story of King Saul. The conversion of the apostle, his first missionary journey, and the Council of Jerusalem are considered as a successful fulfillment that contrasts with the first king of Israel‘s failure. The final rejection of Saul, which concludes the story of the Benjaminite in the Book of Samuel, is reinterpreted by the evangelist as a merely temporary fall. In agreement with the Pauline theology of baptism, Saul dies and rises from the dead, and the pardon granted by Jesus allows him to walk in newness of life. Then Saul travels along the way to election formerly followed by the king. When the third sign of Samuel’s prophecy is fulfilled, he becomes Paul, the new man. The events and the subsequent successes of the mission towards gentiles reinterpret the military victories and the failures of the former king. | ||
