Drawing upon the other attestations of “after these things” from the biblical corpus, this article explains that “after these things” in Genesis may be viewed as a stock phrase, one that a composer or a redactor may employ in the absence of quantifiable chronological data to express the passage of an indefinite amount of time between two consecutive events.
