Même si le rapport homme-nature est déjà présent dans la doctrine sociale de l'Église, ce n'est que vers 1970 que les préoccupations proprement écologiques rejoignent les prises de parole pontificales, et c'est avec l'encyclique Laudato si' que l'écologie est vraiment prise à bras-le-corps par l'Église catholique. Se borner à ce constat serait réducteur face aux études et aux recherches qui existent depuis des décennies et dont les fruits sont d'ailleurs bien présents dans Laudato si'., Since Ernst Haeckel coined the term in 1866, ecology has increasingly shifted from science to political engagement. Ecology is perceived by many Christians as being driven by ideologies that are sometimes hostile to Christian teaching regarding the human person and his place in creation. Though the relationship between humans and nature was long present in the Church's social teaching, it was only around 1970 that specifically ecological concerns began to appear in papal statements and it was only with the encyclical Laudato si' that the Catholic Church truly embraced ecology. To limit ourselves to this observation would be reductive in the face of research and studies that have been ongoing for decades, the fruits of which are already present in Laudato si'. | ||
