Cette dissociation est néanmoins couplée à une articulation que le réformateur formule entre autres dans le Traité de la liberté du chrétien (1520). Une dialectique exigeante, qui tend à orienter le chrétien vers le but de la piété et du service que constitue la foi évangélique, le discernement moral cherchant essentiellement à identifier la limite subjective dans l'agir entre la liberté chrétienne et la servitude sous la loi (2). Cette exigence est-elle praticable en Église ? Quelques remarques à partir du débat synodal sur la bénédiction (2015) en montre les limites (3). La réflexion se conclut en problématisant le rôle de la loi aussi bien chez Calvin que chez Luther (4)., A survey of French Protestant theology shows that moral discernment is generally not thought about in Protestantism. This reality is rooted in the very foundation of Luther's theological gesture, which consists in separating the law from the Gospel and morality from theology (1). This separation is nevertheless coupled with certain moral reflections offered by the reformer in, among other works, the Treatise on Christian Liberty (1520). A demanding dialectic that tends to orient the Christian towards the end of piety and service that constitutes the evangelical faith, moral discernment primarily seeks to identify the subjective limit, at the level of action, between Christian liberty and servitude under the law (2). Is such an approach feasible within the Church ? Its limitations will be demonstrated by some observations on the synodal debate on the blessing of same-sex unions undertaken by the United Protestant Church of France in 2015 (3). The reflection concludes by problematising the role of the law in the work of both Calvin and Luther (4). | ||
