Les titres des livres sont peu explicites (Jérémie, Esdras), ce qui va entraîner des variations dans le contenu des bibles. Les responsables des scriptoria ont eu à choisir les textes, de préférence les traductions de Jérôme sur l'hébreu sous les Carolingiens. Le canon, plus ou moins stable, va tendre à la normalisation des textes copiés. Il fallait choisir entre les textes latins. Désormais il va falloir choisir entre les textes à traduire. La Réforme ne retient pas les livres de l'Ancien Testament transmis seulement en grec. Les catholiques, à partir de Trente et surtout de l'édition Sixto-Clémentine (1592-1593) vont exclure quelques livres présents dans presque toutes les bibles du XVe et XVIe siècle. Les traductions imprimées reflètent ces choix différents. D'où quelques réflexions sur le statut d'une bible catholique aujourd'hui., The physical canon (followed here only in the Latin tradition) is made up of books known only by their titles and enumerated in lists called canon, that is, books which were first of all written separately and then gradually brought together in codices and later gathered into the Old and New Testaments, the pandectes. The titles of the books are hardly explicit (Jeremy, Esdras), which was to cause variations in the contents of the Bibles. Those responsible for scriptoria had to choose texts, preferably Jerome's translations from Hebrew in the Carolingian period. The canon, which became more or less stable, tended towards normalizing the copied texts and it was necessary to choose among Latin texts, then choose among the texts those which would be translated. The Reformation did not maintain the books in the Old Testament transmitted only in Greek. From the Council of Trent and especially the Sixto-Clementine edition (1592-1593) on, Catholics were to exclude some of the books in nearly all the 15th- and 16th-century Bibles. Printed translations reflected these diverse choices, hence we shall propose some reflections on the status of a Catholic Bible today. | ||
