Le traité de L'Abandon et la littérature qu'il ne cesse d'inspirer depuis, invitent à passer de la considération de l'histoire comme lieu de manifestation d'une volonté (celle de Dieu Providence), à la concentration sur l'instant présent comme exercice d'union à Dieu dans « l'indifférence », gage de paix et de joie indicibles. L'abandon mystique au « sacrement du moment présent » déplace ainsi le terrain de la théodicée. Face à l'apparente inertie divine devant le triomphe des « ennemis de Dieu », la charge de la preuve d'innocence ne revient plus à Dieu mais au sujet mystique. C'est la qualité de son abandon qui devrait valoir, aux yeux des autres, théodicée, justification de la bonté de Dieu, de sa bienveillance, de sa providence. Le Dieu des mystiques n'a décidément rien à voir avec le Destin, même sous sa forme christianisée, la Providence : il est liberté, libre volonté, événement, naissance, aventure., After having tried to find its way in the aporias of pure love, it is in the abandonment of self to Providence that late 19th-century modern mysticism took refuge - at a time when God's hand was becoming less and less visible in history. The treatise of Abandonment and the literature it has continued to inspire since encourages moving from the notion of history as locus of manifestation of a will (that of the Providential God) to concentrating on the present moment as an exercise of union with God in indifference, warrant of unutterable peace and joy. Giving oneself up to the sacrament of the present moment thus shifts the field of theodicy. Faced with apparent Divine inertia before the triumph of the enemies of God, the burden of proof of innocence no longer bears upon God but upon the mystic subject. It is the quality of his or her abandonment that must stand - in the eyes of others - for theodicy, justification of the goodness of God, His benevolence, His Providence. The God of mystics most certainly has nothing to do with Destiny, even in its Christianised form of Providence : it amounts to liberty, free will, event, birth, adventure. | ||
