C'est le cas, entre autres, d'un type particulier de violence, à savoir l'antisémitisme chrétien, dont les origines sont recherchées jusque dans l'Antiquité. Anna Van den Kerchove revient sur quelques-uns des textes anciens qui témoignent des relations entre juifs et chrétiens et qui ont pu être interprétés comme des témoignages d'un antijudaïsme, voire d'un antisémitisme chrétien. L'auteur montre que la question gagne à être problématisée pour éviter les simplifications et les anachronismes. À partir de quelle époque peut-on distinguer chrétiens et juifs ? Sur quels plans faut-il comprendre respectivement la rhétorique de l'imprécation qui apparaît dans certains écrits néotestamentaires, les polémiques théologiques des iie et iiie siècles et les décrets conciliaires et écrits patristiques du christianisme qui s'installe dans son nouveau statut de religion légale puis impériale au ive siècle ? En replaçant les discours dans leurs contextes (celui de l'émergence progressive, entre les ier et ive siècles, de ce qui devient le christianisme) et en distinguant le temps de la composition d'un écrit de celui de sa réception, la recherche historique offre des éléments précis à une question trop souvent biaisée par le prisme des tragédies contemporaines. | ||
