Cependant, selon la théologie catholique, ces mots solus Christus ne signifient pas que l’on devrait dénier aux hommes toute possibilité d’accès à quelque connaissance de la Vérité en dehors de la Révélation chrétienne. Ils n’impliquent pas que le motif de l’Incarnation soit seulement salvifique, ni que les créatures n’aient aucune capacité de reconnaître la vérité ou de susciter de l’amour (même s’il faut tenir que cette capacité est elle-même donnée par l’Esprit). Ces précisions ne mettent pas en cause l’expression solus Christus, mais aident à la comprendre dans toute sa signification. | ||

Michel Fédou fully agrees with the emphasis Anne Käfer places on the truth of God made present in Jesus Christ, on the gift of salvation through the paschal event, and on the aim of this salvation which is a communion with God in love. However, according to Catholic theology, these words solus Christus shouldn’t deny the possibility of reaching some knowledge of truth outside the Christian Revelation. They do not imply that salvation is the only purpose of Incarnation, nor that creatures have no ability to recognize truth or inspire love (even if one must assert that this ability is itself given by the Spirit). These considerations do not question the formula solus Christus, but rather help to understand its full meaning. | ||
