| 520 | |a En se penchant sur l'histoire de la Faculté de théologie protestante de Montauban, transférée en 1919 à Montpellier, l'hypothèse de départ de Gilles Vidal faisait de la promulgation de la Loi du 9 décembre 1905 concernant la séparation des Églises et de l'État une rupture signifiante, et donc un repère commode dans une tentative de périodisation de l'histoire de cette institution : on aurait un avant et un après puisque le statut de l'établissement passait de Faculté d'État intégrée à l'université de Toulouse à celui de Faculté libre1. En travaillant sur la composition du corps professoral ainsi que sur l'évolution du nombre d'étudiants, l'auteur s'aperçoit cependant assez vite que la césure, ou plus exactement les césures, ne se situent pas forcément et surtout uniquement à cet endroit qui a marqué si intensément la conscience historique du pays. L'étude de l'occupation des différentes chaires fait assez nettement apparaître trois phases de transition dans l'histoire de la Faculté : la première autour des années 1890, la deuxième en 1905-1906, la troisième en 1919. Seules les deux premières sont traitées dans le cadre restreint de cet article. | ||
| 520 | |a The author works on the assumption that the 1905 Law separating Church and State could be a significant benchmark in the history of the Protestant Faculty of Theology which was moved in 1919 from Montauban to Montpellier : one could identify a time “before” and a time “after” this event, in so far as the status of the Faculty evolved from an institution belonging to the state University into a free Faculty under the sole responsibility of the Church. Nevertheless, studying the composition of the teaching board and the evolution of the number of students, the author soon realises that the rupture should not be located at this time only, a time which left a lasting mark on the historical consciousness in this country. The process of the appointments of the tutors during the late 19th Century shows in fact that there are several points of rupture, clearly drawing three transition periods : the first one around the 1890's, the second at the turn of 1905-1906, the third in 1919. This paper only deals with the first two periods mentioned above. | ||
