This study integrates literature on cognitive development, moral development, and identity theory to explore how moral orientation, as a powerful source of individual meaning making, can enhance indicators of life satisfaction in emerging adults. Differing levels of moral orientation are theorized as being associated with differing levels of moral coherence, and moral coherence is linked with meaning, identity, and life satisfaction. Using the National Survey of Youth and Religion, Wave 3, relativist/subjectivist and absolutist/emerging adults were compared on seventeen life satisfaction measures across five domains of life satisfaction. All indicators within four of the five life satisfaction domains showed that absolutist/intuitionist (higher in moral coherence) emerging adults possessed higher levels of life satisfaction on average than relativist/subjectivist emerging adults.La morale individuelle est souvent une préoccupation secondaire dans la documentation scientifique, et elle est souvent discutée en tant que mécanisme de la spiritualité, une source de résilience pour les adultes émergents. Cette étude intègre la documentation sur le développement cognitif, le développement moral et la théorie de l'identité afin d'explorer comment l'orientation morale, en tant que source puissante de l'élaboration du sens individuel, peut améliorer les indicateurs de satisfaction de la vie chez les adultes émergents. Différents niveaux de l'orientation morale sont théoriquement conceptualisés comme étant associés à des niveaux de cohérence morale différents, et la cohérence morale est liée au sens, à l'identité, et à la satisfaction de la vie.
