| Summary: | The goal of this study was to detail one faith community's special needs ministry and its response to welcoming all of God's children. From the participant interviews, participant observation, and document analysis, several themes surfaced. First, the primary purposes of the ministry were to (a) allow parents and caregivers to go to worship and (b) build real, meaningful relationships with the group members. Next, when examining why the group saw itself as a needed ministry, two themes also emerged: (a) special needs families require extensive support and (b) special needs individuals need support and friendship. |
