Descrição
Resumo:Jean de Bourbon, the abbot of Cluny, tried to renew the obedience to the Order of the provinces outside France, such as that of Spain. His vicars visited the monasteries in 1459 in order to reassert control and to reform their habits (liturgy, dress...). The Chapter-General of 1460 describes in detail the reception ceremony for such visitors as a way of showing, publicly, their membership of the Cluny Order at a time when it was beginning to break up under the pressure of the local powers-that-be, supported by the papacy. They dedicated a lot of time to the elements that constitute the identity of Cluny, and very little to the economic management of the priories.
