The Chapter-General of 1460 describes in detail the reception ceremony for such visitors as a way of showing, publicly, their membership of the Cluny Order at a time when it was beginning to break up under the pressure of the local powers-that-be, supported by the papacy. They dedicated a lot of time to the elements that constitute the identity of Cluny, and very little to the economic management of the priories. | ||
