520 |a This article provides the first edition and German translation of a Syriac fragment transmitted in Codex British Library Add. 14529 and attributed by William Wright (1872) to Cyril of Alexandria’s commentary on 1 Corinthians. However, the analysis of the fragment presented in the main part of the article makes clear that the edited text belongs to Cyril’s commentary on 2 Corinthians. Although the fragment has no corresponding Greek original in the Greek manuscripts transmitting excerpts from the text of the commentary (Codex Pantokratoros 28 and Codex Vaticanus Graecus 762), Cyril’s Apologia contra Orientales contains a passage that is very close to the edited Syriac text. This fact leads to the assumption that the fragment was originally a part of Cyril’s commentary on 2 Corinthians which was later copied by Cyril in his Apologia. The discovery of this 'self-plagiarism' has considerable implications for dating the Apologia as discussed at the end of the article.
