Au cours de son pontificat se multiplient les relations directes entre les pays qui s'essayent à la forme républicaine et abandonnent peu à peu l'unanimisme religieux ; face au « monde moderne » et à la construction de l'unité italienne, la papauté connaît une mutation profonde. Sont ici étudiées les représentations de Pie IX parmi les catholiques hispano-américains à trois moments différents de la biographie du pape : tout d'abord, l'image du « pape américain », comme un compliment au dirigeant réformiste récemment arrivé sur le trône pontifical ; puis la figure du « pape prisonnier », « persécuté » et « dépouillé de ses biens » qui correspond aux années où le pontife intransigeant est confronté à une défaite politique et militaire ; et finalement l'image de Pie IX comme une métaphore du triomphe de la religion sur le monde moderne et des clôtures symboliques contre le succès des réformes libérales à différentes échelles. | ||
| 520 | |a In the history of relations between Hispanic American nations and the Holy See, the figure of Pius IX holds a privileged place. During his pontificate direct relations multiply between countries that were testing the republican form and gradually leaving aside religious exclusivism, and the papacy, confronting the “modern world” and the construction of the Italian unity, was also undergoing a profound mutation. This article is interested in the representations of Pius IX amongst Catholic Hispanic Americans in three different moments of the pope's biography: firstly, the image of the “American Pope”, elaborated as a praise to the reformist ruler, who had just arrived at the pontifical chair; followed by the figure of the “prisoner pope”, “persecuted” and “stripped of his property” for the years in which the pontiff faces political and military defeat with intransigence; and, finally, the image of Pius IX as a metaphor for the triumph of religion over the modern world, and of symbolic barriers over the success of liberal reforms at various scales. | ||

Este artículo se interesa por las representaciones de Pío IX entre los católicos hispanoamericanos en tres momentos distintos de la biografía del papa: primero por la imagen del “papa americano”, elaborada como elogio del gobernante reformista, recién llegado al solio pontificio; enseguida por la figura del “papa prisionero”, “perseguido” y “despojado de sus bienes” que corresponde a los años en que el pontífice enfrenta la derrota política y militar con la intransigencia; y, finalmente, por la imagen de Pío IX como metáfora del triunfo de la religión sobre el mundo moderno, valladar simbólico frente al éxito de las reformas liberales en diversas escalas. | ||
