| 520 | |a Gezeigt wird, dass Luthers Sicht des Glaubens der Christen zugleich seine Sicht ihres Lebens ist: Der Glaube ist für Luther die in der leibhaften Begegnung mit der leibhaften Verkündigung des Evangeliums durch die Kirche vom heiligen Geist geschaffene Gewissheit, dass das Lebenszeugnis Jesu (des Evangeliums in Person) über das Wesen unserer menschlichen Lebensgegenwart als Realisierung des weltschaffenden und -erhaltenden unbedingten Versöhnungswillens des Schöpfers, des ewigen Ursprungs und Ziels aller menschlichen Lebensgegenwart, wahr ist. Somit ist Inhalt dieser Gewissheit das Verhältnis, in dem alle Menschen, also auch der Glaubende selbst, zum Schöpfer ihrer Welt stehen: Als das geschaffene Ebenbild des schaffenden Personseins des Schöpfers stehen sie in dem von diesem selbst geschaffenen und erhaltenen Verhältnis der „Kooperation“ mit ihm, welches einerseits radikal asymmetrisch ist, nämlich insofern, als es dem Schöpfergott allein die Erreichung der absoluten Zukunft dieses Verhältnisses (die vollendete, also auch versöhnte, Gemeinschaft des geschaffenen Personseins mit dem schaffenden in dessen ewigem Leben) überlässt (also jeden „Synergismus“ ausschließt), zugleich aber auch andererseits ausschließt, dass dieses eschatische Ziel vorbei am eigenverantwortlichen Wollen und Wirken des Menschen in der Welt (also vorbei an seinen innerweltlichen Werken) erreicht wird. Die Gewissheit, in diesem Kooperationsverhältnis zu existieren, weist somit drei Aspekte auf, die gleichursprünglich und irreduzibel sind. Sie ist a) Gewissheit des ultimativen Angezogenseins vom „höchsten Gut“ (der versöhnten Gemeinschaft mit Gott in dessen ewigem Leben), zugleich b) Gewissheit, als geschaffene Person unter der unabweisbaren Zumutung (Pflicht) des eigenverantwortlichen Dienstes am Unterwegssein des menschlichen Zusammenlebens (der Gemeinschaft aller Menschen) zu seinem ewigen Ziel zu existieren, sowie c) immer auch die Gewissheit des Kräftig- (Fähig- und Tüchtig-)seins zur Erbringung dieses unabweisbar zugemuteten eigenen Lebenswerks, nämlich „Lust und Liebe“ zu diesem Gebot (zu dieser Zumutung, die den Menschen nicht mit der Begründung seines Heils überlastet). Die Gewissheit des Glaubens ist die Einheit dieser dreifachen Gewissheit über das Leben des Glaubenden, die auch nur durch das Ganze von dessen Leben anerkannt, ausgedrückt und kommuniziert wird. – Heute ist diese Sicht keineswegs obsolet, sondern anschlussfähig an viele Weisen des Fühlens und Denkens und Anlass, andere kritisch zu hinterfragen. | ||
| 520 | |a This paper attempts to show that Luther’s understanding of Christian faith is at the same time his understanding of the Christian life. Faith is for Luther the certainty which is created in the bodily encounter with the bodily proclamation of the Gospel through the church by the Holy Spirit. Its content is the truth of the witness of Jesus’ life (of the Gospel in person) about the nature of the character of the present of human life as the actualisation of the reconciling will of the creator, the eternal origin and goal of every present of human life. In this way the content of this certainty is the relationship of all human beings, including the believers themselves, to the creator of their world. As the created image of the creative personhood of the creator they are in a relationship of “cooperation” with the creator which is created and sustained by the creator himself. This relationship is, on the one hand, characterized by radical asymmetry in so far as it leaves the realisation of this goal, the absolute future as the perfected and reconciled community of created personal being with the being of the creator in his eternal life, entirely to the creator and so excludes every form of “synergism”. This relationship excludes, on the other hand, that this eschatic goal can be actualized by circumventing or bracketing the responsible willing and acting of human beings in the world. The certainty of existing in this relationship of cooperation includes three equally foundational and irreducible aspects. It is: a) certainty of the ultimate attraction of the “highest Good” (communion with God in God’s eternal life); b) certainty of the absolute obligation to serve the responsible being-on-the-way of human social life (of the human community) to this eternal goal; and c) certainty of being enabled and empowered to fulfil the imposition and obligation of one’s own life’s work, having the desire and love to fulfil this commandment (which does not overextend humans with the task of creating the foundation of their own salvation). The certainty of faith is the unity of this threefold certainty concerning the life of believers, which can only be acknowledged, expressed and communicated by their way of living as a whole. – Today, it is argued, this view is by no means obsolete but is capable of being related to various forms of thinking and feeling and offers good opportunities for engaging in the critical questioning of other views of faith and life. | ||
